Document Description Based on The Siege of Meaux, fought between the English and the French in 1422, during the Hundred Years' War. Meaux is besieged by revolting peasants. Matilda, daughter of the Governor, is in love in Douglas, a soldier, who loves her in return. Matilda is desired by both Dubois and St. Pol who, after being rejected by her, plan to let the peasants into the town to enable their capture her and her lover.
