| Additional Information | John Payne Collier in Biographia Dramatica [under The Romantic Lover]: This comedy was not by Allingham, but by J. P. Kemble-All the corrections (of which there are many) on the copy sent to Larpent were in the hand writing of J. P. Kemble, his initials were placed at the end of the dramatis personae and his name was inserted by Larpent in his account books as the real author. If the comedy had succeeded Kemble would doubtless have claimed the authorship of it: it was given in the newspapers to Allingham. |
