Document Description Printed copy of Diamond's Hero of the North [6th edition 1806?]: dated by Larpent November 26, notice gives title as Gustavus of Sweden, changed to present title. Contains many manuscript additions and corrections. Inserted, A Prefatory Dedication to the Subscribers [this is the dedication of Brooke’s Gustavus Vasa (1739). An incomplete copy. Gustavus Vasa was King of Sweden from 1523 until his death in 1560.

Additional Information Application November 20, 1810, John Philip Kemble, Covent Garden Theatre Produced November 29. Compared to The Hero of the North, 4th ed., 1803 (Kemble-Devonshire collection 406): alterations, consisting chiefly of condensation and omission of songs, corrections in Kemble’s hand, to make the text meet such objections of the Examiner as are suggested by Genest (VIII, 225-26).John Payne Collier in Biographia Dramatica: It was in fact an alteration of Dimonds Hero of the North-The additions were most likely by J. P. Kemble as he has corrected them in his own hand throughout.
