Document Description | Huntington Library catalogue states that the author of this pieces is ether William Thomas Moncrieff or Theodore Edward Hook. Sir Peter has entered into a promise of marriage with a young Miss Harvey through an arrangement with her mother. However, when Miss Harvey and the nephew of Sir Peter meet, they fall in love. Through a series of tricks and deceits, the two lovers trick Sir Peter out of the marriage and secretly wed themselves. The tricks are so deceitful that by the end of the piece Sir Peter believes himself to have gone insane. |
