Document Description Sir George Rakley takes a fancy to a girl from the village and so engages her as a maid whilst his wife is away. However, the maid is secretly already married to the Valet of Sir Rakley, the secret kept from Sir Rakley for financial reasons. The valet arranged of Lady Rakley to arrive home and catch the two at dinner.
