Document Description | The plot is based on the tradition of the Upas Tree of Java. A young native of Macassar has been sentenced to death by the Emperor of Java for being in the vicinity of the harem where he believed his wife had been taken after being kidnapped by pirates. His sentence is commuted if he can bring back the deadly poison of the Upas tree. |
